#Whats app – a brain child of Brian Acton and Jan Koum,
initially started as a messaging platform in 2009. Whats app is one the most
used messaging platform, inspite of it being an app that’s got in app
purchases. Whats app stuck stardom when
it was purchased by facebook in 2014 for 19Billion USD.
What’s app has got strong hold in most of the major
countries in the world.
1 South Africa – 78%
2 Malaysia – 75%
3
Argentina – 74%
4
Singapore – 72%
India has more than 69% active users and occupies 7th.
The penetration in USA and Europe is nowhere close to Asian and African
countries.
Whats app allows you to send text messages, images and
audio/video files of size (16 MB) to friends and groups(max 100 in a group).
Here are a few thoughts on what we think about what’s app.
#Battery (4.5/5): Whats app stay extremely light on battery
usage even after days of usage in various mobiles and platforms its usage
becomes negligible compared to other apps.
#Memory (4.5/5): The app is 15.90 MB in size in play store
and 36 MB in istore. The app is designed
to run on low spec mobiles. The memory management of the app is really a tech
milestone to wonder. Never in my use of
the app for a considerable amount of time I haven’t seen the app misbehave.
#Functionality (3/5): Though what’s app is a well-developed
app, it lacks features like sending text or any type of file to unsaved
contacts. Lacks video calls, lacks regional support. The file size for the attachment is also
limited(16 MB). Also the in built stickers are really not what we would call as
“EXPRESSIVE” and lacks regional touch.
#In-app purchases(2/5): Though 1$ doesn’t seem to cost a lot
for few people in few countries, its fairly costly considering the fact several
other awesome apps, pack more punch for free than what’s app.
